Welcome to That’s What Pea Said…
Following on from 10 steps to better living, here are 10 thoughts which you need to try to remove from your mind. If you’re ever feeling overwhelmed with negativity, these steps are a good starting point for alleviating the unwanted clutter from you mind. As I always say, all changes are more manageable when broken into small chunks, so perhaps choose one area to tackle at a time. Removing these thoughts isn’t a guaranteed path to happiness, however it should leave you feeling less drained and able to focus your energies elsewhere. If you have any additional suggestions of feedback, please let me know…
❁ Overthinking: Although it’s easier said than done, it’s important to try not to overthink things. Overthinking is the biggest culprit for causing brain clutter and it serves very little purpose. Sometimes it’s best to go with your gut, make a decision and take action.
You can read more about overthinking: here
❁ Negative Thoughts: Negative thoughts serve us no purpose and not only do they clutter your mind, they create negative energies which can infiltrate and influence your mood. These is no quick fix, however it’s important to bear in mind that our happiness doesn’t depend on how few negative thoughts we have, but what we choose to do with those we do have.
❁ Being Jealous: Instead of being jealous of others, be happy for them and their achievements. Jealousy is such a negative emotion and only leads to further negativity. If somebodies behaviours and achievements are making you feel negative, this is something which you ought to look at within yourself.
❁ Living in the past: Something which has already happened cannot be changed and therefore, there is no point wasting valuable brain power over something which you cannot control. If something has caused consequences which are effecting your life or wellbeing, it’s important to find an appropriate way to deal them and seek support and advice if needed.
❁ Worrying about what others think: Worrying about what others think is a huge source of brain clutter. Your friends and family should be supportive of you and treat you with kindness, compassion and most importantly respect. If you begin to doubt their opinions, its worth informing them how you’re feelings and take responsibility to question how you view your relationship and the boundaries you’ve set.
❁ Feeling sorry for yourself: Take this opportunity to take stock and review your current situation. If you feel that there are changes you’d like to make, take control and create a plan to do so. This exercise can be both motivational and empowering.
❁ Insecurities: Insecurities are natural and important not to let them take control and dominate your life as this can be both overwhelming and draining. If something is making you feel insecure it’s important to ask yourself why and whether or not you can rectify the issue. If it’s caused by someone else opinion, you don’t need this negativity in your life.
❁ Comparing yourself to others: With technology and social media becoming more involved in our everyday lives, it’s becoming increasingly difficult not to focus and compete with others. It’s important to remember that the majority of people are only posting their best lives online. Lots of content is staged and ultimately, everyone is running a different race, with difference goals and a different finish line.
❁ Fear or worrying about what may happen: Another thought process which is easier said than doe but it really important to try and enjoy things for what they are and what they will be. Worrying about things which you cannot control removes any change of joy or enjoyment and if anything it’ll make you feel uncomfortable. You have everything right to removed yourself from any situation and say ‘no’, you don’t owe anyone an explanation.
❁ Being envious: Similarly to jealousy, envy is poisonous to your mental wellbeing. Envy is an emotion when you want what somebody else has and you feel a resentment towards others because of their possessions or successes. Envy is a reaction to lacking something in your life and is trimmest by feeling threatened. It’s important to learn to be happy with your successes and if you want something more, use this as motivation to achieve your goals.
I hope you find the above useful, if you have any others please let me know in the comments!
